SS11 Alexander McQueen
The Alexander McQueen SS11 show was one that was eagerly awaited, following Alexander McQueen's tragic death in the spring, Sarah Burton, his right-hand woman for 15 years took over as Creative Director. It would not have been an easy task to take on the pressure, create her own vision, whilst staying true to McQueen's legacy.
As has been the tone of shows with McQueen, featuring dark stage presence and design, Burton showed a lighter touch, the faded floor boards sprouting grass between its crack, a symbol of re-birth and growth. Similarly, her designs were feminine, softer, but equally as creative and technically extensive. The monarch butterfly dress blew the editors away.
There will still be baited breath amongst editors and buyers in the lead up to her next collection, she has already, with SS11, established her familiarity with the McQueen brand, proving that the future of Alexander McQueen as a company is secure, and in Sarah Burton, a new era has begun.
Lindsay Wixson fronts the McQueen SS11 campaign.
